In its ongoing effort to promote accountability and transparency in the justice system, the Justice Sector Coordination Office (JSCO), with financial and technical backing from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has successfully published multiple flagship reports under the Justice Sector Reform Strategy (2024–2030).
The JSCO compiled, validated, and published the Justice Sector Half-Yearly Report (January–July 2025) along with the first and second editions of its newsletter, The Justice Sector Limelight. The reports highlight progress, challenges, and reform priorities across fifteen key institutions, including the Judiciary, the Sierra Leone Police, and the Legal Aid Board. These publications have become essential reference tools for policymakers, civil society, and development partners seeking to assess sector performance and guide evidence-based decision-making.
The Justice Sector Limelight has become an important communication tool, with its first edition, Meet the Leadership, profiling heads of justice institutions to foster transparency, while the second edition, Reforms in Action, showcased tangible institutional achievements and simplified complex legal reforms for public understanding. The upcoming End-of-Year Justice Sector Report will consolidate these achievements, providing a comprehensive review of the sector’s performance and setting future priorities for reform implementation.
To ensure nationwide access, JSCO employed an extensive dissemination strategy, distributing over 500 copies of the reports to stakeholders across government, civil society, and partner organizations—with 40% circulated in rural areas. This deliberate outreach has narrowed the information gap between urban and rural communities, enabling citizens across Sierra Leone to engage more meaningfully with justice reforms.
Through these efforts, and with the steadfast partnership of UNDP, the JSCO has strengthened public confidence in the justice system’s commitment to openness and accountability. The justice sector’s renewed emphasis on transparency and data-driven reporting marks a transformative step toward building a more equitable and responsive justice system for all Sierra Leoneans.
